At the House of Hope, we are proud to have launched Secondaries Together, a new regular group for people living with secondary breast cancer to come together, connect, and share their experiences with others who understand.
This group grew out of our partnership sessions with the Beatson Cancer Charity, which provided weekly workshops for people with incurable breast cancer, where it became clear how much value there was in creating a dedicated space for those living with a secondary diagnosis. Secondaries Together offers that continuity: a supportive, welcoming community where conversations can be honest, gentle, uplifting or simply real.
Understanding secondary breast cancer
Secondary (or metastatic) breast cancer occurs when breast cancer spreads to other parts of the body, such as the bones, liver, lungs or brain. While it is considered incurable, many people live with it for months or years, undergoing ongoing treatment to manage the disease and maintain quality of life.
Living with secondary breast cancer can bring unique challenges. Not only physically, with fatigue, pain and treatment side effects, but also emotionally and mentally. People often describe navigating uncertainty, fear, grief, and the pressure of trying to stay positive. There can also be feelings of isolation, as those with a secondary diagnosis sometimes feel left out of broader breast cancer conversations, which tend to focus on treatment finishing or recovery.
This is why spaces specifically for the secondary breast cancer community matter. They offer room for honesty, shared experience, and peer wisdom that doesn’t need to be explained.
A community that understands
Secondaries Together is for anyone impacted by secondary breast cancer who wants to connect. You can talk, listen, learn, or simply sit quietly among people who get it.
Our founder and CEO, Lisa, lives with secondary breast cancer herself and understands first-hand the need for spaces that feel safe, validating and free of pressure. At the House of Hope, we recognise our secondary breast cancer community as a vitally important part of who we exist for.
You are welcome here
The House of Hope exists to provide support, strength, community and peace for anyone impacted by breast cancer. We are here if you need practical information, emotional support, shared connection, or just a cuppa and a comfortable chair next to people who won’t need things explained.
Whatever you need (even if you’re not sure yet what you need), you are welcome here.
Our Secondaries Together Group will be held on the third Friday of each month. Check out our bookings pages for upcoming events and classes.
